Ashmawy is a judge in the Egyptian court of appeal and a prominent Egyptian writer; he wrote numerous studies on crime prevention and has been a regular contributor of articles to newspapers and websites. His writings mainly revolve around the Egyptian history and antiquities, as well as social and political criticism of the state of Egyptian society.

“Sayedat Al Zamalek”, i.e the Zamalek’s lady, is Ashmawy’s latest novel. It tackles the incident of infiltration of a well known villa in the neighborhood of Zamalek by five people, including an Egyptian man who was accidentally put in the way of this group. This incident becomes a turning point in his life. The events of the novel occur in a tie of great political and social change.
