By now, most of the world knows that on July 31, one of the most famous networks in the world, HBO, was hacked. It was announced that the hacker (or hackers, the identity is still anonymous) was able to obtain 1.5 terabytes of videos, scripts, and even classified documents and emails from the network's database -stealing data that is worth millions of dollars. Now, the hacker has struck again, releasing episodes that were set to premiere in October.
"Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What's its name? Oh, I forget to tell. It's HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling." -Hacker's first statement
After the first hack on Game of Thrones, the hacker leaked episodes of many other series, such as Room 104 and Ballers. However, the most shocking leak was that of the fourth episode of Game of Thrones just days before the airing date, costing the network thousands (if not millions) of dollars.
Then on August 3, an email signed by kind Mr. Smith was sent to several recipients, such as the Hollywood Reporter. The sender of the email claimed to be involved in the cyber attack on HBO. The sender also said that the leaking of the previous data was due to the fact that HBO had broken their promise. It is still unconfirmed if these reports are true or not.
This week, the hacker struck again, releasing unaired episodes of the hit TV series Insecure, and episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which was scheduled to premiere in October.
"Not in communication with the hacker, and we're not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That's a game we're not going to participate in." -HBO spokesperson
It is still unknown how much money the hacker is demanding, but an email was leaked detailing that HBO offered $250,000.
