Five Easy Ways to Reduce Plastic Waste

-

We have been abusing nature for decades only to fulfill temporary needs. As a result, carbon dioxide levels are on the rise and climate change is negatively affecting us in many ways. A lot of these problems can be fixed if we find a way around the issue of excessive plastic waste. And even though we tend to use plastic a lot in our daily lives, here are five easy ways to reduce our usage.

Avoid Plastic Bags

There is no need to carry around a plastic bag every time we buy something. They take up to 1,000 years to decompose and usually end up in landfills and oceans, in turn killing and poisoning sea creatures. Keep an eco-friendly cloth bag with you each time you go shopping and say goodbye to plastic bags.

Buy in Bulk

When you buy in bulk, you reduce the amount of plastic packaging you use and save money as well. For example, a big bottle of shampoo will require less plastic packaging compared to two or three smaller bottles.

Repurpose Any Plastic

Repurpose the plastic you have at home into reusable items. Turn an old shampoo bottle into a pen holder or a pot for a plant, for example. This will help decrease the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills.

Get a Reusable Water Bottle

Instead of buying water bottles every day, use a reusable one and do the environment a favor! You can buy a water dispenser at home as well and let go of water bottles entirely.

Go Natural with your Makeup

Makeup and beauty products have a lot of packaging and plastic ingredients in them. Try using natural decomposable ingredients as alternatives. For instance, instead of blush add cocoa powder, or make your own deodorant at home instead of buying it; you will still get great results without the negative environmental impact.
