Egypt PM Calls for Emergency Law Extension

According to Al-Ahram, Egypt’s Prime Minister addressed the House of Representatives today, calling on them to approve the extension of the state of emergency that was issued on October 12. The statement comes after the terrorist attacks that unfolded in North Sinai and the Western Desert that left dozens of Egyptian police and army forces dead.

“The extension of the state of emergency is necessary to ensure security and stability. Terrorism will not deter us from continuing our development,” said Ismail.

According to Youm7 Newspaper, Dr. Ali Abdel Aal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, also addressed the officers and soldiers of the Ministry of Interior. Abdel Aal wanted to let them know that, on behalf of the Egyptian people, “we stand beside you.”

“The main aim of these attacks is to destroy hope for the people of our land and to weaken confidence and morale,” said Abdel Aal. “They know they can’t defeat our country and that’s why they want to dwindle our confidence in ourselves.”
