When we go to school, they don’t teach us how to make the most out of our time on this planet. Sometimes, in order to lead successful, meaningful lives, we often need to follow in the footsteps of successful people. We’ve gathered the best eight pieces of advice this generation needs, as told by some of the most influential people of all time.

This makes you wonder who your real friends are. People will gladly be around when life is glooming, but when it gets rough, only the good ones will stay. So be wary of your choices, because you’ll want to have a friend or two around to help you through the bad times. Make sure that you’re surrounded by a good bunch of people to take the bus with you.

You’ll never be with the person you love unless both of you exert enough effort to make your relationship work. You’ll never get that dream job unless you study hard in university and prove your commitment to your career. Nothing worth having comes easy, so be ready to do the unexpected if you want remarkable things for yourself. Your dreams exist in reality; you just need to work a little bit harder to see that for yourself.

We try so hard to meet expectations that we forget about our own dreams and aspirations. But when do we get to follow our passion? When can we begin pursuing what we actually love and want? Be courageous enough to say no to the norm and to everyone standing in your way. Be courageous enough and follow your heart, because you have so little time on your watch. Remember, you only get to live once.

Fear is what stands between us and our aspirations. However, we shouldn’t be afraid of fear; on the contrary, we should be trying to get over it. You need to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself more, because when you do, you’ll be one step closer to your dreams.

We have to know that there is a huge difference between having money and being rich. You can be the richest person alive with just a little amount of money. You can be rich in knowledge, friends, family, love, happiness and so much more. But you can have the largest sums of money and have none of these. Money can’t make you rich. Appreciate all the things around you and know their worth. Intangible things are more valuable than the monetary tangible items. Set your priorities and know what is more worthy and never take your fortune for granted.

A natural part of life is having to face many obstacles and misfortunate events. You have no control over their occurrence; however, you have full control over how you react to them. You could choose to give in and be depressed or you could try to be as positive as you can and find the spark that keeps you going. You could turn every negative situation into a positive lesson and you could find at least one positive thing in every situation. So remember to always turn the light, because life is too short.

We all have our own set of goals, and accordingly we put a certain plan to reach our ultimate goal. We should know that in order to go places and reach what we aspire to become, we need to follow our plan to the end. We can’t take any shortcuts, because if we do, then we will miss being part of the whole experience. The whole experience is what gets us ‘There.’ We need to pass through every single obstacle and overcome it to be where we want to be. Without all of the suffering and the time spent along the way, we wouldn’t appreciate the end result as much. So just enjoy every bit of it.
