5 Simple Habits That Will Make You Happier Every Day

-

Even though you might be too busy with school, university or work, it doesn’t mean that this should be the only thing going on in your routine. It’s always important to set aside some time every day just for yourself, so start implementing these five habits for a happier, more balanced life.

1. Play sports

Exercising for as little as 10 or 20 minutes a day is crucial, and it is often a successful method to prevent and manage depression. It allows for the release of ‘feel-good’ chemicals in your brain and helps keep stress at bay.

2. Spend time with loved ones

Whether family or friends, spending time with people you care about is always a good idea. If you aren’t in the mood to chat, a movie or some background music will help you enjoy the comfortable silence.

3. Go outside

According to a study, spending 20 minutes outside in good weather not only makes people happier, but it also broadens thinking and improves their working memory. Go outside and breathe some fresh air, even if it’s just a short walk around the block.

4. Meditate

According to a 2017 study done in the Massachusetts General Hospital, mediation contributes to compassion, self-awareness and overall happiness. Focus on your breathing and allow yourself to detach from life’s stresses; it’s a great way to stay calm in the fast-paced digital age.

5. Give Back

Giving back can oftentimes remind you to be grateful for what you have. Once you realize how privileged you are compared to others, you will start appreciating the simpler things in life.
