With shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Black Mirror, it seems like television now is better than ever. When it comes to acting, writing, cinematography and concepts, TV shows have drastically improved, and it’s fair to say that they’re taking some of the glory that used to belong to films.

The long timeframe of TV shows allows for more space to experiment and for stories and characters to develop. It seems like this wave of quality TV series is here to stay, so we’ve gathered the newest and highest-rated shows that will keep you on the edge of your seats!

1. Mindhunter

With an 8.7 rating on IMDB and a 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, Mindhunter looks like it has the potential to rise to the top. It takes place in the 70’s and follows two FBI agents as they delve into the psychology of serial killers.

2. The Punisher

We’ve seen the character in the second season of Daredevil, and he was so impressive that they gave him his own show. The Punisher is darker and more realistic than the other Marvel superheroes, however, and Jon Bernthal’s performance as the titular character is heavy and heartfelt. It holds 9.1 rating on IMDB and 61 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

3. Godless

A new western that’s rated 8.4 on IMDB and 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Godless looks like one of these shows that people won’t stop talking about anytime soon. The performances, especially by Jeff Daniels, are very powerful and guaranteed to stick with the viewer.

4. The Deuce

This HBO drama looks at life in New York in the 70’s and 80’s, and also has James Franco as the protagonist. With an 8.2 IMDB rating and a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Deuce is a must-see.

5. Big Mouth

If you enjoy adult cartoons like F is for Family and Rick and Morty, then you’ll love Big Mouth. An honest depiction of puberty, Big Mouth is hilarious and anyone can relate to it. It currently holds a 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.2 rating on IMDB.
