According to Ahram Online, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation have signed a deal worth 100 million euros for the upgrading of Alexandria's tram line. The 150-year-old line is one of the oldest in the world.
The deal comes as part of a 360 million euro project planned to upgrade the city's entire tram network. Sources have also stated that it will double the tram's daily capacity from 100,000 passengers to 230,000.
The Minister of Transport, Hisham Arafat, commented that the ticket price will be determined upon the completion of the upgrade.
